MAPFRE PET will protect you for the most common expenses you may incur so that dog or cat can be safe and sound. The following are some of the advantages offered by this coverage:
- Accidental Damages
Reimburses veterinarian expenses incurred as a result of an accident or injury suffered by the animal during the policy’s one-year period.
- Accidental death
Compensates the cost of a puppy of similar features as the covered animal in the event of accidental death.
- Theft
Reimburses 80% of the cost of a puppy of similar features as the covered animal in the event of the loss of the animal.
- Search-related expenses
Reimburses the expenses incurred in the search to recover the animal.
- Euthanasia and disposal of the body
Applicable if death was caused due to an accident, old age, or incurable disease.
- Boarding in a canine o feline center
Reimbursement in the event the owner is hospitalized.
- Selection of a veterinarian of preference
The veterinarian may be freely selectable.
- Automatic discount
A 10% discount off of the premium may be offered for animals duly registered or identified with a Microchip.
MAPFRE PET is an individual policy, which could also include as an additional cover by endorsement on the Personal Multiplan policy, giving you the flexibility to protect your dog or cat under three differente plans when insuring your property. Thus, you have the advantage of being able to also include the property, the car, the boat and your libaility , together with your pet in the same policy.

Accidents and injuries
If your pet has an accident during the policy coverage, MAPFRE will reimburse veterinary costs as a result of that accident or injury suffered by your pet.
Accidental Death
If unfortunately your pet dies, we will pay you the amount of money that a puppy of similar characteristics –of the die pet- costs.
In case of theft
In case of theft: We will refund 80% of the cost of a puppy of similar characteristics to the animal covered by the policy.
Lost
If you lose your animal, we will refund corresponding to your pet expenses searching.
Euthanasia
If requested and advised by the veterinary -for accident, old age or incurable disease-, the company will pay the cost.
Disposal of the body
Disposal of the body: We will proceed to reimburse the costs if the death was because of an accident, old age or incurable disease.
Lodging costs
If you have to be hospitalized and cannot take care for your dog or cat, we will deal with the pet vacation center fees.

General Conditions
MAPFRE PET is specially designed for those who need to care for their cat or dog while ensuring their own peace of mind. The policy protects you from expenses related to damage because of an accident, accidental death, robbery and search. It also includes the costs of euthanasia and disposal of the body, and lodging in a canine or feline center if applicable. The insured can choose the veterinarian of his/her choice and type of coverage (basic, extended or pet high valuation).

Requirements and Restrictions
There are some obligations to consider before getting the insurance:
- The insured shall endeavor to mitigate the consequences of the damage and provide the Company with all kinds of information about the circumstances and consequences of the event.
- The animal has to be a cat or a dog and be in good health, without any physical disability or damage. It must be owned by the Insured and be older than three months and less than nine years (from the age of 9 –if it happens during the year of the policy period-, repayments and compensation shall be reduced from 25%).
The policy does not cover expenses incurred due to negligence, abuse, neglect or poor hygienic quality. Nor infectious and parasitic diseases or injuries unless they are a result of an Accident covered under the policy; and other restrictions.
The policy applies only to events that occur in Puerto Rico.
